Video Transcript for Detailed Breakdown of the Pin and Clip for 2" and 2-1/2" Hitches

What's up, everybody. It's A.J. with etrailer.com Today, we're gonna be checking out this 5/8 hitch pin from Curt. So it's gonna be used for towing accessories, just a quick pin and clip to throw in there, to make sure this doesn't go anywhere. Let's check it out. You see I can just pull the clip off there, and remove our pin.

And this is what you're gonna get. It's gonna be great for those hitch-mounted accessories. You see, it just slides right there, on a two-inch by two-inch hitch. That way it stays in place. And it's gonna be good for, if you don't leave your accessories on there all the time, you're not really worried about security all that much, 'cause there are locking hitch pins you can get as well.

So that's if you're gonna keep it in the hitch for a long time, and you just don't wanna worry about it, but this is better for maybe you only use the ball mount every once in a while, you just wanna throw it in there and get started. You're gonna throw it right back in the back of the truck when you're done. Or maybe if you're in a state with stinger laws and you can't leave this on here all the time, you don't wanna leave it locked up, so you just pull that pin and clip, and throw it in the side. The pin and clip are gonna be steel construction, with a zinc finish on there. So that means it's not gonna rust or corrode if you leave it out in the elements.

So that's one less thing to worry about if you do leave your accessory in all the time. So this isn't just for ball mounts either, it's most hitch accessories, if they don't come with their own threaded pin or their own special brand of pin, it's gonna be one of these is what secures it to the hitch. So it doesn't hurt to have one, definitely nice for, like I said, a quick unpin, pull it out, swap out your accessory, or just put your accessory away when you're done with it. Not something you worry about leaving on there and locking up. Well, I think that does it.

Thanks for hanging out, and I hope this helps..

  • Recommended 10,000 lb Capacity Ball Mount and 2 Inch Hitch Ball With 7 Drop
There is a ball mount that has a 2" hitch ball and the 7" of drop you are looking for. Since you have a 10,000 lb capacity Demco Channel Tongue Trailer Coupler # DM13689-95, in order to match the weight capacity and get the 7" of drop you need, you will need an adjustable ball mount: - B&W Tow & Stow 2-Ball Mount # BWTS10040B (Black) or # BWTS10040C (Chrome) The Tow & Stow has a 2" and also a 2-5/16" ball, a 10,000 lb towing capacity, and up to 7" of drop so it matches everything you...

  • Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch Pins
Trailer Hitch Pins like the Curt # C21500 do not have specific weight ratings and there is not a database available that will have this type of information. Generally speaking, a 5/8 inch diameter pin, which is designed for Class III, IV and V trailer hitches, will have a rating that exceeds what a Class V hitch will be able to handle. A 1/2 inch diameter pin for Class I and II trailer hitches will typically have a capacity of up to 3,500 pounds.

  • Hitch Pin Weight Capacity and Sheer Strength
We aren't manufacturers of those parts, and we don't have the testing ability in house, so I reached out to a couple of our manufacturers to see what information they could provide to try and help. I reached out to my contact at Curt regarding the pin and clip # C21500 and he said they haven't ever needed to test the sheer strength of a pin because the hitches and ball mounts will fail before the pin does every single time. They are rated for 6 figures easily. He gave an example of a...

We have exactly what you need for your 2019 Nissan Titan XD, the Curt Trailer Hitch # C15306, because this monster of a hitch is Class V rated with a towing capacity of 16,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 2,400 lbs. It will fit your '19 Titan XD, even if you already have the factory hitch - it will simply fit below that hitch to give you a bigger, meaner hitch. As you can see by the linked installation instructions the Curt # C15306 does not require any drilling into your truck's...

The tongue weight of a tow dolly is minimal because it has the weight of the front of the tow vehicle across the axle. So you will have almost no tongue weight when using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes # RM-2050-1. You will simply need to account for the towing weight of the 545 lb # RM-2050-1 along with the 2,932 lbs curb weight of your 2007 Toyota Prius. Good question John! I have two options for you to choose from. One is more of an "entry level" system and the other is a more premium system. Either will absolutely work with your trailer and your 2025 Honda Passport (I double checked in your owners manual and it said you can use weight distribution). We definitely have some options available for your 2021 Audi Q8. With your trailer sitting right at 24 inches tall and the hitch sitting at 17 inches, I am going to suggest going with 7 inches of rise. The Curt Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # C45448 will have the needed 7 inches of rise and will also be able to handle up to 12,000 pounds. The Curt 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # C40008 will then attach to this ball mount. You will also need a pin and clip, like the C21500, if you do not already have...
